We have been going through the potty training process with Pink for the last month. We are definitely successful with the pee pee part. She even goes in there on her own, pulls her shorts and panties down, sits down, does her business, and even pulls her shorts and panties back up. Big step, ha!
When she goes to bed we still put an overnight diaper on her because that is a little too long to go between potty breaks. She sleeps a good 11 hours at night and I don't even think I could pull that one off. So, with the nighttime diaper, this is when she would usually decide to go poo poo. Well, there would come a time when she would need to go poo poo during the day so she would just go in her panties. How is the clean up on that, you ask? Oh, Fabulous! It is especially fabulous when she would try and take the panties off and it would smear on her leg, get on the carpet or all over the tile in the bathroom then try and climb back up in her bed to watch a movie. Ugh! Clean up turns in to a 30 minute ordeal, easily!
We start brainstorming from the beginning, what can we bribe this child with? We tried two pieces of candy (contrary to the one piece she got for pee pee), a new toy of her choice, ice cream, Popsicle, a new DVD, a new house, a new car, you name it! She would do it about once a week or so and we would get soooooo excited. Obviously she did not get what all the excitement was about because she would continue to soil her panties and they would end up in the trash. Those panties are not cheap either.
Last Monday we decided to give the new neighborhood pool a try. It was a blast. The splash pad was a major hit with Pink. She also loved the baby pool. She was not diggin' the big pool for more than 5 minutes. Blue just sat back and relaxed in his little boat while Leo pushed him around. Always chill mode with Blue! So, I am sitting in the baby pool with Pink and she says, "Mommy, I need to go potty."
Pink and I walk in to the bathroom and I put her up on the potty. She is sitting there with this determined look on her face and then I hear the "bloop." I started going NUTS! I was screaming and clapping and giving her a high five. She asks, or should I say tells me that we are going to Target (yes, I know it is VERY sad that my 2 year old knows the name of a store) to get a new toy and ice cream. So, indeed, that is what we did later that day.
Another week goes by, another 2 pair of panties ruined until this weekend, Saturday to be exact. Leo's rents were in town and we had my Mom over for dinner as well. We were all sitting around the table after enjoying a fabulous steak dinner. Of course my Mom asks, "What's for dessert?" I look at Pink and I say, "Well, I was kind of banking on Pink going poo poo in the potty because I would LOVE some ice cream tonight." So, after I said this, everyone chimed in. We were all looking at her telling her it would be so nice if she went. Then I asked her if she needed to go poo poo and she answered, "Yes!"
We walk in the bathroom and she sits there. She goes pee pee and continues to sit there. I am thinking to myself, " Is she going? Do I smell poo poo?" I ask her, "what kind of ice cream are you going to get? " She looks up at me and says while grunting, "Pink ice cream with sprinkles." It was the funniest thing I had ever seen/witnessed. She did it, she went poo poo and we all got our ice cream.
She has now done it the last 3 days in a row. We are so hopeful that this is it, we are done. Last night she even grabbed a book and ran in there and took care of business. Like Daddy, Like Daughter :)
